MATERIALS USED

Detailed Manufacturing Processes

CORK

Sourced from cork tree remnants, transformed into aerospace-grade cork using plasticized resin and phenolic binders. Hera Technologies machines cork in controlled environments to manage its tendency to plume, shrink, and expand, ensuring stability and precision.

METAL

Utilizing three to five-axis machining and turning for intricate parts is crucial for rocket structural components. Hera Technologies offers metallic machining with soft goods and substrate bonding for full assembly builds.

Composites

Handcrafted layers of composite materials and fibers are assembled and fused. Composites are machined with specialized tools to avoid stress cracks, ensuring safety and integrity.

FOAM

Varieties of foam, including closed-cell and open-cell types, are precisely manufactured. Hera Technologies controls machining for different densities, suitable for insulation and ground support.

PLASTIC

Ranges from nylon to acrylic, stabilized and machined to exact aerospace tolerances. At Hera Technologies we’ve pioneered techniques to overcome plastic’s non-flat nature from manufacturers and maintain stability during machining.

FABRIC

Used in diverse applications, from impact-resistant covers to acoustic barriers. Hera Technologies leads the launch vehicle industry in selecting and designing fabrics for optimal thermal protection.

Thermal Protection Materials

A variety of materials, each designed to resist high temperatures. We leverage specialized manufacturing to maintain tolerances and control contamination.

RUBBER

Primarily used for seals, requiring precision machining to maintain its malleability and smoothness. Each sheet is probed for tolerances, ensuring precision in seals and gap closings.

GASKETS

Manufactured specifically for conductivity resistance, using ultrasonic and oscillating knives for precise cutting. Hera Technologies has developed specialized processes to maintain thickness and tolerance control.

Aramid Honeycomb Core

High particulate material, stabilized through meticulous baking and environmental control processes. Machined with a focus on contamination prevention and precise reactions to environmental factors.

Metallic Honeycomb

Porous material requiring precision in preventing cell crushing and shifting during machining. Custom vacuum tables and specific machining tools are used to maintain tight tolerances.
